ABOUT BSA
The Brussels Sports Association
We are a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organisation that provides quality sports opportunities open to all children. We offer soccer, basketball and baseball training in English to children coming from 45 different international and local schools in Belgium.
Our ethos
We strive to be recognized across Brussels as the home for high quality sports programs and a vibrant international community. BSA promotes fair play, skills development and fun for children and their families
The BSA CONNECTS families, INSPIRES potential, and DEVELOPS passion for sports across the international community in Brussels.
Our Governance
BSA has a volunteer-based Board of Directors who oversee and support the running of the organization, which is led by a paid Managing Director. We depend on the incredible generosity and commitment of our volunteers – from parents coaching sports to others helping out behind the scenes.
Funding
BSA is formally recognized as a not-for-profit organisation in Belgium (asbl - Une association sans but lucrative) but receives no government funding. BSA fully depends on the incredible generosity of corporate sponsorships, partnership support, donations and participation fees to cover all overheads. This includes the International School of Brussels who offer us the use of their state-of-the-art sports facilities.
History
James Sidgwick initially established BSA in 1958 to provide baseball for children from the international community. The Association has expanded since then, adding soccer (1970) and basketball (1979). Membership has grown from 200 families in 1958 to more than 800 families, coming from more than 48 different countries today. We’re very proud to have been offering sports to the international community of Brussels since 1958!
"You do it because you love children and you want to give them the rich experience associated with participating in team sports." James Sidgwick, Founder of BSA |
